Sunglasses are essential cycling kit. Not only do sunglasses enhance road and trail visibility as well as comfort, they also protect the eyes from wind, flying bugs, dust and debris. With a seemingly endless array of cycling sunglasses available, which do you choose? What are the most important features of cycling sunglasses? What are the best lens options to suit the changing conditions riders face throughout their ride?

First, protection. You need 100% UV blockage to protect eyes from the sun’s damaging rays. Additionally, the lens must be made from impact resistant material to protect from flying debris or crash impact.

Second, performance. Different lens colours are optimal for different times of the day, as well as changing light and weather conditions. The optimal colour for each condition gives you the best visual contrast and perception. The challenge is choosing the best sunglasses that will address most of your cycling needs, without having to buy multiple pairs of sunglasses or swapping lenses each time conditions change.

Despair not, there is an ultimate sunglass lens solution for cycling. A lens that seamlessly changes to three different colours. A lens that is photochromic to darken and lighten depending on the available sunlight, and polarized to block blinding glare. There is a sun lens that in all weather conditions can perform; from dark early morning starts to bright midday sun, and to the long shadows of late afternoon. A lens that intelligently adapts from dawn to dusk, from glaring sun to overcast, fog and rain. An ideal lens solution, optimised for all the challenging conditions cyclists face.

Transitions® Drivewear® is the world’s only polarized photochromic lens that automatically changes to three different colours that are optimised to the eye’s physiology. It darkens and lightens according to the light conditions while also blocking harmful UV rays. And it is fully polarized to block blinding glare from the environment, including wet road surfaces.

Available in non-prescription and prescription, Transitions Drivewear lenses can be fitted into many sunglass frames or you can buy ready-made non-prescription sunglasses. Developed by ophthalmologists and optometrists in the US, Transitions Drivewear combines two global leading technologies: Transitions® photochromics and NuPolar® polarization.

The SUPER VISION of Transitions Drivewear gives you the edge for performance, comfort and safety. So make your next ride the best it can be.

Yellow lens Perfect for low light conditions: early morning, fog, haze, overcast and dusk. Heightens contrast and improves definition in low light to better see dips, hollows and bumps. In low light conditions Transitions Drivewear automatically fades to a yellow/olive colour with a lens tint of 63% to maximise contrast, while its polarization blocks any glare present.
Copper lens Ideal for partly cloudy conditions and shade. Accentuates colour for better contrast and depth perception to spot road or trail surface irregularities and obstacles in the shadows. Transitions Drivewear changes to a copper colour in the shade, in light overcast conditions and when driving. The tint darkens up to 75% tint and the polarization blocks glare.
Dark brown lens A good all-round lens colour choice for high ambient light conditions. Filters light to protect against bright sunlight. Enhances contrast to better see surface detail, particularly on trails. Provides excellent depth perception. In bright sunlight Transitions Drivewear changes to a dark brown colour with a 90% tint. The polarization blocks blinding glare.
Photochromic Lenses seamlessly change darkness based on light intensity. Tint darkens when the sun is bright and fades in lower light, making it ideal for early morning rides that extend into the day. Only one pair of sunglasses is needed throughout the day, even when weather conditions change hour-to-hour. Transitions Drivewear is powered by the unequalled world leading Transitions photochromic technology, fading to 63% in low light and darkening up to 90% in bright light.
Polarization

Cuts blinding glare reflected off wet roads, bodies of water, cars and buildings. Polarized lenses enhance contrast for crisp high definition vision. On very bright days, polarization blocks glare without having to wear a dark grey tinted lens, which is not ideal for cycling. Dark grey tinted lenses offer poor contrast when cycling so you could miss road or trail hazards while also being too dark to see details in the shadows. Transitions Drivewear features world leading NuPolar polarization. Tests prove no other polarized lens comes close to NuPolar in overall performance^.

100% UV blockage The sun’s damaging rays are a risk to eye health. UV has been linked to cataract, skin cancers around the eye and pterygium (growth on the eye), so UV blockage is a must. Transitions Drivewear blocks 100% of UV rays.
Impact resistance Resistant to impact so lenses will not shatter in a fall or if debris hits you in the face. Shatter-proof if dropped. Transitions Drivewear lenses are made from several impact resistant materials, including Trilogy® Trivex® and polycarbonate.
Lightweight Lightweight lenses are a must for maximum comfort. Transitions Drivewear lenses are made from lightweight materials such as Trilogy Trivex and polycarbonate.
Anti-scratch Protects lenses and enhances durability. Anti-scratch coating can be easily applied to Transitions Drivewear lenses when buying from your optometrist. Transitions Drivewear ready-made sunglasses in non-prescription come with anti-reflective coating.
Prescription & non-prescription Transitions Drivewear is available in both prescription and non-prescription lenses. For prescription lenses in a wide variety of frames, see your optometrist. Ready-made non-prescription sunglasses are available from your optometrist. Non-prescription Transitions Drivewear lenses can also be fitted into many sunglass frames by an optometrist.
Quality High quality Transitions Drivewear lenses are manufactured by Younger Optics, a global leader in optical and ophthalmic lenses for more than 60 years. Developed with ophthalmologists and optometrists in the US, Transitions Drivewear combines two global leading technologies: Transitions photochromics and NuPolar polarization.
^ NuPolar lenses perform better than competitive polarized lenses in many crucial tests: polarizing efficiency, heat stability,
   film adhesion and colour stability.
